License, plans and updates

PixelHunter Translate translates your store through the PixelHunter translation API. There is no API account or API key to set up: your license key is all you need.

  • Monthly or yearly: you choose at checkout.
  • Yearly: 12 months for the price of 10. The characters of the whole year are credited on day one — 3,600,000 on Starter, 18,000,000 on Pro, 72,000,000 on Agency — so you can translate the whole store at once.
  • Unused characters roll over to the next period while the subscription is active.
  • Free trial: no card, no subscription. It needs a real email address (disposable emails are refused), and there is one trial per site.
  • Currency and taxes: prices are in US dollars. In the EU you pay the same amount in euros (€5, €12, €29 a month; €50, €120, €290 a year), VAT included. Elsewhere, any sales tax is added at checkout. The invoice is issued to you with the tax of your country.

How characters are counted

  • Every character of the original text counts once per target language. A 1,000-character product translated into 3 languages uses 3,000.
  • Only new or edited text is sent. A product that is already translated costs nothing again.
  • Visitors never trigger a translation, so traffic never costs characters.

A store with 450 products and short titles uses about 33,000 characters per language. With full product descriptions, 300,000 to 600,000.

Activating the license

  1. Pick a plan on the License tab of the plugin.
  2. The key arrives by email right after checkout.
  3. Paste it in License → License key and save. The first translation activates it on that site.

Recommended: define the key in wp-config.php instead:

define( 'PHT_LICENSE_KEY', 'PHT-...' );

That way it is not in the database, it does not show up in an export, and nobody with only admin access can change it. The field on the License tab then shows the key as locked.

Sites

  • A key activates on each site that uses it, up to the sites of its plan.
  • Sites on the same key share its characters.
  • A staging copy counts as a site. Translate on the live site, or free a slot for the copy while you work on it.

To move the key to another site:

  1. Open My account: https://polar.sh/pixelhunter/portal
  2. Sign in with the email you used at checkout (a code is sent, no password).
  3. Open the license key and, under Activations, deactivate the site you no longer need.
  4. Paste the key on the new site.

The old site stops translating within the hour. What it already translated stays online.

Balance and changing plan

  • The characters left show at the top of every screen of the plugin, with a bar.
  • When the balance reaches zero, translation stops and retries every hour. Nothing is lost: pending texts wait for the next period.
  • Need more characters or more sites? Change plan in My account → Subscriptions → Change plan. Each plan has its own license key, so a new key for the new plan arrives by email. Paste it on your sites (or in wp-config.php) and translation resumes. The old key stops within the hour.
  • Already subscribed? Do not use the Subscribe buttons on the License tab: they start a new, separate subscription and you would pay twice. Change plan in My account instead.

Cancelling, refunds and invoices

  • Cancel anytime in My account. The key keeps working until the end of the paid period.
  • Invoices and receipts are in My account.
  • A refund revokes the key within the hour.
  • Anything else: write to [email protected] with the email you used at checkout.

Your translations live on your site and are yours. They do not disappear when the subscription ends. Subscribe again at any time and automatic translation and updates come back right away.

Without a license

Without a key you can detect strings and translate by hand on the Strings tab, but there is no automatic translation.

Updates

  • New versions show up in Plugins → Installed Plugins, like any other update, and can install with one click or automatically. Sites see a new version within 12 hours.
  • View details shows the description and the changelog.
  • Downloading a new version needs an active license. The free trial counts, with or without characters left.
  • Every package is digitally signed by PixelHunter, and the plugin refuses to install one that is not.
  • Updates come from the PixelHunter update server, not WordPress.org: a plugin with the same name there is never offered over this one.
  • If an update is refused, the Updates screen says why (see Messages you may see).
