This policy explains what personal data PixelHunter collects when you visit pixelhuntertranslate.com, try or buy PixelHunter Translate, use the plugin’s license and translation service, or contact support, and what we do with it. We collect as little as we can: the website has no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers.
Who we are
PixelHunter, based in Porto, Portugal, is the controller of the personal data described here. For anything related to privacy, write to [email protected].
This policy does not cover the websites where you install the plugin. For your own visitors and customers you are the controller, and your site needs its own privacy policy.
What we collect
- Visiting the website. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare process the technical data needed to deliver pages and protect the site: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the date and time. We do not use it to profile you.
- Browser storage. The site keeps two small preferences in your browser’s local storage: the currency you picked in the pricing table, and whether you dismissed the language suggestion. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. See the Cookie Policy.
- Free trial and purchases. Checkout is handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar collects your name, email address, billing details and payment information. We receive your name, email address, country, the plan you chose, your order and subscription status, and your license key. We never see your full card details.
- License and translation service. When the plugin translates, checks your balance or downloads an update, it sends your license key and your site’s domain name to our service. Translation requests also carry the text to be translated. We record the characters used and the sites where each license is active.
- Support. When you email us, we receive your email address, the content of your message and anything you attach.
Text you send for translation
The plugin sends your site’s text (pages, products, menus, email templates) from your WordPress admin, and only when an administrator starts a translation. Visitors to your site never trigger a request. The text goes through our service to the translation API we use, only to return the translation and to count the characters against your balance. The API provider processes it under a contract with us, does not use it to train its models, and may keep it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
Please do not put personal data in the content you translate. The plugin is built to translate site content, not customer records such as orders.
Why we use your data
- To provide what you asked for: the trial, your license, translations, updates and support (performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To keep the website and the service secure, and to prevent license abuse and fraud (our legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- To keep invoices and accounting records as the law requires (legal obligation, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR).
We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing. We only email you about your license, your account and important changes to the service.
Who we share it with
Only with the providers we need to run the service, each bound by a contract with us:
- Web hosting and email: our hosting provider in Portugal hosts the website and the support mailbox.
- Cloudflare: delivers and protects the website and runs our license and translation service.
- Polar: processes payments and taxes as merchant of record. For payment data, Polar acts as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
- Translation API provider: produces the translations from the text you send.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
International transfers
Cloudflare, Polar and our translation API provider may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. When they do, the transfer is covered by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Purchase, license and invoicing records: while your license is active, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires (in Portugal, up to 10 years).
- License usage (characters used, active sites): while the license is active.
- Support emails: up to 2 years after the conversation ends, unless we need them longer to resolve a dispute.
- Technical logs: for a short period, usually no longer than 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We answer within one month. You can also manage your purchases, invoices and license activations in the customer portal.
If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt), or to the authority where you live.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS only. License keys are masked in the plugin’s interface and never returned in full by its REST API, and plugin updates are signed and verified before they install. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit the data we hold to what the service needs.
Children
Our website and products are meant for businesses and site owners and are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we tell active customers by email.
